Enchanting spot … Harry Potter star Rupert Grint’s
five-bedroom home is on a private island

Written by John Troup

HARRY Potter star Rupert Grint has conjured up a wizard house for his folks.

Rupert — who plays Harry’s mate Ron Weasley — has moved into a £600,000 five-bedroom house with his parents, brother and three sisters.

Their luxurious home is one of six on a private island on the River Lea in Hertford.

Red-haired Rupert, 14, is thought to have earned £500,000 bringing Harry’s loyal friend Ron to life in the films based on JK Rowling’s books.

A family friend said: “Rupert’s success in the acting world has transformed the lives of his family.

“They used to live in a semi but they have now been able to move into the house of their dreams.”

Rupert’s life altered dramatically after he appeared alongside fellow star Daniel Radcliffe in the two Potter movies — the Philosopher’s Stone and the Chamber of Secrets.

He is in such demand that his parents Nigel and Jo are employed as highly-paid chaperones.

The couple sold their semi for £200,000 in May last year.

The family pal added: “His dad sold his motor supplies business because he and Jo have devoted themselves to Rupert’s career.

“They have both worked as his chaperones when he is on location and they have made a significant amount of money out of the movie business in their own right.

“With five kids to look after, they felt they needed somewhere larger and Rupert’s phenomenal success helped make it all possible.”

Chaperones have become more common since the high-profile falls from grace of child prodigies like Barrymore and Macaulay Culkin.

But last night the family friend said: “There’s no danger of Rupert going off the rails. He’s far too level-headed and sensible for that.

“He’s a really nice and genuine young boy and it hasn’t changed him one iota. He’s always polite and pleasant and, if anything, he’s become even more so since he became famous.”

Rupert — who also starred in the children’s movie Thunderpants — is due to start work on the third Harry Potter film, the Prisoner of Azkaban, next month.
