Film festival to provide a reel treat for film fans

Stars of Harry Potter and Sir Ben Kingsley are among the movie greats in Belfast next month as part of the Jameson Belfast Film Festival.

A host of famous faces will be attending the week long programme of events including Rocky Balboa star, Belfast’s own Geraldine Hughes.

Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, will be in the province for the mid-week Gala screening of his new film, local feature Cherrybomb.

Other showbiz names set for the city include Nathalie Press and comedian Paul Merton with his homage to silent comedy, Silent Clowns.

The festival, which honours local and international cinema, is now in its ninth year and will be screening over 130 films from all over the world.

Festival Director, Michele Devlin said: “As the festival grows each year, we are so proud of the fact that, as well as a strong selection of international and European films, we are able to showcase a burgeoning wealth of local film-making and acting talent.”

There will also be screenings of the short-listed entries into the Short Film competition, previous finalists of which have went on to Oscar nominations.

It is not just film fans who are in for a treat when the festival begins on March 26 — there will be something for everyone with a cultured palette in the province.

The festival kicks off on March 26 and runs until April 4.
