ICM Exclusive: Report about Rupert Grint in Amsterdam
Mid-June, it had been announced that Rupert Grint along with James and Oliver Phelps would head over to Madrid, Spain, and Amsterdam, Netherlands, to promote their new film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
On 30 June 2011, the three “Weasley boys” were to open a special Photo Exhibition with images from all the Harry Potter films at Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam.
Early in the morning, the first fans started to assemble, sharing stories and watching the team setting up the stage and the photo stands, covered with black veils, for the event. Except for a few drops of rain around noon, it not only remained dry, but warm and sunny as well.
After some confusion and regular re-arranging of the safety fences (which forced the fans to move around the place every thirty minutes, seems like they didn’t expect so many fans), we finally got our spots at about 5pm. Having put the fans behind a huge area for VIPs and the Press Area, the fans were at least 30 meters away from the stage by the time the trio arrived.
At 7pm, James and Oliver exited their limousine to loud cheers, which got even louder when Rupert’s name was announced and he appeared in a second car.
Dressed in a shirt, tartan-jacket and matching waistcoat along with his famous Union Jack Converse, Rupert waved at the crowd, posed for the cameras, and finally joined the twins in a quick interview on stage.
The Highlight?
When the moderator turned back to Rupert for a question, he began “And you, Ron, how…”
But before he could finish, the fans and twins started laughing while Rupert exclaimed “Did you just call me Ron?!?!?!”
Sadly the questions of the moderator weren’t ones we’ve never heard before, so the answers from the guys weren’t new to us, too. But they made the best of it. Smiled and waved to the fans most of the time and seemed to be overwhelmed by the huge croud on the little Square.
After the interview the guys took off the black veils along with about 15 kids, who were dressed black, with cloaks, wizards-hats and Harry-glasses and the Photo Exhibition was opened.
Once the journalists had gotten their share of pictures, they left their area and the fences were opened for the fans to rush forward to get closer. Rupert, James and Oliver spent no less than 40 minutes with the fans, signing autographs, posing for photos, shaking hands and giving hugs, but it was impossible to reach every single fan.
They were then ushered back to their cars, but not before James jumped out once more for a final autograph.
The Photo Exhibition is now open for everyone to see. It shows pics from every one of the eight movies, but sadly no pictures we haven’t seen before. Nevertheless it is nice to take a look around. So if you are in Amsterdam one of the next days – come and visit the Rembrandtplein.
